About Animal Loving Elvis…

My father, Elvis Cayford, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, just shy of his 94th birthday and just after celebrating 31 years of marriage to Eddie Cayford. We have them to thank for bringing my wife, Lisa Nelson, and I to Seymour, and shortly thereafter coming together with community members interested in helping cats and dogs to found PAWS. As we began rescuing, fostering, and finding homes for kittens and cats, my dad and Eddie were part of our kitty team. He loved playing with the kittens and they sure loved climbing up on him.

As a missionary in Nigeria my father encountered a variety of animals and passed along an appreciation of them to me. Among the menagerie at our house was not only our family of Siamese cats, a beloved German Shepherd Dutse, and her myriad of puppies, but also chickens, rabbits, turkeys, guinea pigs, hedgehogs rounded up by the dogs, tropical fish we caught in local streams, lizards, snakes — including a cobra from the backyard — and even monkeys and baboons.

My father loved both people and animals, and I am pleased that we have been able to care for the cats and dogs here in a way that serves both.

P.A.W.S., a 100% volunteer run nonprofit organization, began in 2024 to improve and save the lives of cats and dogs in and around our rural community. It operates in collaboration with community partners and our animal loving community to support and is funded entirely by donations.

In 2025, PAWS fixed & vaccinated 59 TNR feral kitties, found homes for 25 dogs in the Seymour Dog Pound (No kills in 2025!), rescued 47 kitties, & found homes for 49 felines. See P.A.W.S. Mission.

Your generous gift will help P.A.W.S. become a sustainable resources for cats and dogs in rural Texas. P.A.W.S. works not only to save and improve the lives of animals but also aims to foster a more compassionate community that values and protects all creatures.
